Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid.
Objectives
The objective of the qualification is to benefit Learners by preparing them to deal with
a range of paediatric first aid situations and/or take on the role of first aider in an early
years setting. Upon successful completion of this course, a Qualsafe approved
Paediatric First Aid certificate will be awarded (valid for 3 years).
Contents
Each student must demonstrate that they are able to:
• Perform Infant CPR and safe use of an AED.
• Perform Child CPR and safe use of an AED.
• Perform treatment for a Choking casualty.
• Treat paediatric wounds, bleeding, and shock.
• Treat an unconscious casualty.
• Manage the treatment of paediatric fractures.
• Manage the treatment of anaphylaxis.
They must also be able to deal with a casualty who:
• Requires cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use of an AED (practical)
• Is unconscious (including seizures)
• Is bleeding or wounded (including catastrophic bleeding)
• Is suffering from shock (practical)
• Is suffering from choking (practical)
• Is suffering from an injury to bones, muscles or joints.
• Has sustained a head neck and spinal injury (practical)
• Has been burned or scalded.
• Has an eye injury.
• Has been overcome by gas or fumes.
• May have been poisoned or exposed to a harmful substance.
