Wire Rope Inspection
Wire Rope Inspection
Wire rope inspection is a critical part of lifting equipment safety and helps prevent failures that could lead to serious accidents, equipment damage and costly downtime. Regular inspection ensures wire ropes remain safe for use and comply with industry standards and lifting regulations.
A typical steel wire rope is made up of hundreds of individual steel wires, carefully engineered and manufactured to provide the ideal combination of strength, flexibility and durability for lifting operations.
As a wire rope bends around drums and sheaves, each individual wire moves slightly to accommodate the difference between the inside and outside of the bend. The tighter the bend radius, the greater the movement and the higher the stresses placed on the rope. Over time, this repeated movement causes wear, fatigue and deterioration, making regular inspection essential.
ISO 4309:2017 Wire Rope Inspection Standard
