 Objectives

To give managers, supervisors, and other relevant personnel wishing to deliver basic manual handling skills training the confidence and background knowledge to do so to a peer group. The delegates receive classroom training using generic or company specific documentation and systems, in all areas of manual handling instruction.

Contents

The delegates receive theory and practical training under expert guidance from fully qualified and experienced personnel in the following aspects of occupational training:

  • Relevant legislation
  • Manual handling skills
  • Scale of the problem
  • The spine
  • Types of manual handling related injury
  • Kinetic lifting technique
  • Practical exercises
  • Communication and presentation skills
  • Training development and delivery techniques
  • Additional knowledge and warm up exercises (delivered by a physiotherapist)
  • Practical training delivery exercises.

There is a strong practical element to this course; consequently all delegates should be physically fit. It would be advantageous if delegates had previously received basic manual handling training.

During the course all delegates will be expected during the course to develop and deliver a brief training presentation.
